Internship in English teaching assistant in Barcelona (alrededores)

Learning languages is a fundamental part of one’s professional development; in this increasingly globalised world, languages are now necessary if we want our profiles to appear competitive. This languages school has been teaching professionals, predominantly in English since 1984. 

The school has various bases in the outskirts of Barcelona and in Ireland. The compnay is specialised in helping people to prepare for their official languages exams. Despite the fact that the school’s speciality is teaching English, they also offer classes in German, French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Chinese and Russian, amongst others. All of the classes are tailor made to the students and their indicidual development. The courses can be both intense and carried out over a long perido of time, they also offer linguistic immersions in Ireland and Barcelona. 

The company is looking for students who are passionate about languages and who want ‘to learn to teach’. 

The student will participate in the languages classes as the assistant of a native teacher. The classes are varied and are focussed on listening, grammar, speaking or the preparation of the official exams of Cambridge, Trinity and Oxford. The student will help to prepare the class beforehand along with the rest of the team. The student will also help in conversation classes, including debates about current affairs whilst using media and audio aids. The other tasks include:

• Preparing and creating material for the classes. 
• Understand and be able to explain the teaching content to the students, using texts, debates, games and with the help of the main teacher. 
• Carry out tutorials and help the students on both an individual and group basis, in order to resolve any doubts and to reinforce any concepts. 
• Correct exams and exercises with the use of a template and put the results in the school’s data base. 
• Plan, prepare and develop bibliographies, graphs and tables for teaching. 
• Practice teaching to individuals and to small groups. 

Depending on the needs of the school and the internship tutor, it may also be possible to participate in tasks such as translation, creation of content for the company´s web page and/or blogs, use of the compnay´s social media accounts, digital communication, reception of clients in the front office, etc. 

The  internship hours will be:

-5 hours per week of teacher training with the head of studies where the intern will learn pedagogical techniques, learning the teaching material, creating activities for the classes and getting to know the official exams. 

-25 hours per week with the following tasks: correcting written tasks, giving classes and helping the main teachers in general as well as the head of studies.
